IBEW LOCAL UNION 130
BUSINESS MANAGERS' WORDS
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
First I want to reassure all members that we do expect the job situation to improve this fall. We have been putting some of our members to work slower than we would like, but it is happening just the same. I appreciate your patience with the situation and want to pledge to do all we can to secure jobs that become available.
We were told that December would be the date for the VA Hospital bid but progress seems to be accelerating. Although the work is still scheduled to start after the first of the year, the bid process is now planned to start in September in some phases.
I want to encourage you to take the Get 1 and Get 2 training required for jobs at Waterford 3. Please see Manuel for more information. Also, Power Safe training classes are being given through the Hall free of charge to members. Power Safe is required, starting September 1, for Entergy's fossil fuel plants. Please call or see Ann to schedule a class.THESE CARDS ARE NECESSARY IN ORDER TO MAN OUR JURISDICTION!
I would also like to remind you that there is an election on Saturday, August 28th, and encourage you to exercise your right to vote. The IBEW's endorsed candidates or in the voting information bar on this website. It is very important that we elect labor friendly candidates.
Finally, I hope to see you at the Labor Day Picnic in City Park at Popp's Fountain behind Marconi Meadows. Good food and a good times is always had by all. The picnic is free and tickets can be picked up at the Hall from Ann.
Fraternally,
Clay J. Leon III
Business Manager/Financial Secretary

Why Consider Competing in the Residential Market?
In 2006, out of the $1.04 trillion spent in building construction, $646 billion was spent in constructing dwelling units. That represents 64.5% of building construction dollars. These numbers dont take into account the non-building construction dollars spent on the nations infrastructure (highways, bridges, water treatment, etc.). However, if you do consider non-building construction, the $646 billion constructing dwelling units still represents 53.3% of all construction dollars (1.2 trillion) spent in 2006.
A tour back through recent economic history indicates that dollars spent on dwelling units are always more than half of the total building construction dollars spent. In 2005, 64.5% was spent on constructing dwelling units; 2004, 63.3% was spent; in 2003, 61% was dedicated to constructing dwelling units, and in 2002, 57.8% went towards dwelling units. The numbers arent in for 2007, but if history holds true, those numbers will reflect the same trend and have similar percentages.
